Alison Coggan

I am a glass artist based in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.

I first began making fused glass (glass that is heated and joined in a kiln at very high temperatures) when I was searching for a new hobby as a way to express myself and support my wellbeing.

Having qualified as a cabinet-maker and upholsterer when I was 22, I had always had a calling to 'create things', but had somehow drifted into a 'proper job' in NHS Healthcare Transformation projects.

I was in my 50s when I found glass as a medium and, before long, what started out as a hobby turned into an obsession. I expanded my craft into stained glass (initially, traditional leaded panels, and then using the copper foil technique made famous by C. L. Tiffany) and, when I ran out of room (and relatives to gift things to) I realised that I had to either stop making or start selling. It was not a difficult decision.

I have been making & selling both stained and fused glass at craft markets for a few years now and, as I approach 60, I am considering 'giving up the day job' and finally taking the leap into becoming a fully-fledged, full-time artist.

Every purchase made helps me on that journey, and I sincerely thank every one of my customers from the bottom of my heart;

"Thank you so much for helping me find myself."
